Someone found a baby mallard in her pool and brought it to Mud Lake hoping a nearby mallard family would adopt it. First thing it did upon hitting the water was follow a female mallard around and calling the whole time. The Ottawa Wildbird Care Center is no longer accepting orphaned baby mallards due to the ongoing avian flu, aka H5N1. However, I was told that one person from Safe Wings Ottawa was still taking in baby mallards to care for them.
